-Traditional Kurinuki techniques
-Bounds style of Kurinuki
-alternative approaches to kurinuki, including a large crackle bowl and a small dish/plate
-Adapting the technique for different kinds of clay, how to find different textures and encourage the clay to rip or tear apart
-Materials, additives, and tools to use
We will cover the entire process, start to finish and I will answer all of your questions live during the demonstrations.
Lava Mugs
I will demonstrate my signature Lava mug process from start to finish including trimming. Time permitting, we will also go over my new footed lava mugs as well as how to make a lidded Lava jar.
Nerikomi Slab Technique
We will go in depth to learn this Nerikomi-inspired slab technique to make a mug and small footed dish.
Slip-Textured Mugs, Bowls and More!
We will explore a variety of other slip-textured forms including mugs, bowls and small vases. Time-dependent we may get to discuss some of the new, never-before-seen, techniques I have been developing.
Testimonials
“Joseph was such a lively and informative fellow! He has so much knowledge and passion for ceramics that it’s hard not to feel inspired after his demos. His insight on all forms of art comes from years of experience that offer a unique perspective. Not only is he wise, but he is incredibly engaging and a real star of the show!”
-Anastasia, ETSU SCA President
“Joseph’s attention to detail during his workshop was splendid. He helped my students understand his process thoroughly and spoke deeply about his design choices and artistic philosophy. His ability to discuss the nuances of his process and answer a variety of questions provided us all with lots to ponder over. A highlight for me was when Joseph took it upon himself to work on a new artistic challenge which we provided. Watching him deliberate over how to approach this was insightful and inspiring!”
-Mat Wheeler
“Very informative workshop! I enjoyed learning new techniques and getting to try my hand at kuriniki. Joseph is a great teacher and answered all of our questions. Would recommend to others! Thank you for the opportunity.”
